In 2013, HMP Barlinnie held a Prison Arts Festival, to showcase the positive benefits of creativity within prison. Theatre Nemo hopes that this becomes a regular occurrence and that nationally, other prisons participate too.
At the time the prisoners were sadly unable to invite family members along to see what they had achieved, so in February the group performed the same piece for their guests.
At the Arts Festival, a group of Taiko Drummers, coached by facilitators from Theatre Nemo, performed. To play at performance level after ten workshops clearly shows a progression of confidence, focus and ability.
Taiko drumming is a Japanese art form.
