Our Visual Art group focuses on acrylic painting on canvas, with an emphasis on landscapes. Sessions are relaxed, welcoming and suitable for complete beginners as well as people who already enjoy painting. The tutor takes the group through each painting step by step, helping you learn new techniques and build confidence as you create your own work.
Mark Byrne - Art Tutor
Hi, I’m Mark and I’ll be your Visual Art tutor. I’ll guide you through each painting step by step, helping you develop your skills and confidence with acrylics. You don’t need any previous painting experience – just come along and be willing to give it a try.
What you'll learn
Each term consists of 14 weekly sessions followed by our end-of-term showcase. You’ll learn how to work with acrylic paints on canvas, exploring colour mixing, composition, brush techniques, creating depth and building up a landscape painting from start to finish.
Sessions are initially tutor-led, with everyone working through paintings together step by step. As the term progresses, you’ll be encouraged to use the skills you’ve developed to create your own exhibition painting, which will be displayed as part of the Visual Art exhibition at our showcase.
Join our Visual Art Class
You can register yourself online or be referred by a health, social care or community organisation. You can attend up to three Nemo Arts activities each week, with Choir available in addition to this limit. Places are subject to availability, and you’ll need to register again before each new term.
Develop your own style
You don’t need to think of yourself as an artist to get started. We’ll help you build your skills one step at a time, giving you the confidence to make your own creative choices and develop paintings that reflect your ideas and interests. By the end of the term, you’ll have the opportunity to see your own work exhibited alongside the work of other Nemo Arts participants.
