In 2009, Theatre Nemo delivered a multimedia arts course to a group of 12 prisoners over 12 weeks, at HMP Barlinnie.
During the course we explored various visual art techniques, such as abstract painting, still life and sculpture.
The participants created a short film titled The Door, which shows prison life from the mixed experiences of the group.
Also created within the course was a short animated film titled Austin’s Squishy Adventure.
Via this project, Theatre Nemo taught prisoners practical and transferable skills while creating film and animation. The participants were involved in all aspects, which means they used up to date professional software to edit video and sound giving a solid foundation in IT skills.
It is hoped that by contributing to the personal development of prisoners, this project will have aided rehabilitation.
